Overview
Millions reimagines the debit card experience by offering rewards for each transaction, blending finance with gaming elements. The Millions app and brand features interactive and playful visuals, making financial transactions engaging. It targets a modern audience seeking a fun, rewarding banking experience.
My Role
I joined Millions in its infancy—no logo, no established identity. I was the Lead Designer from early 2020 to late 2022. I was tasked with creating a logo and branding that stood out from others in the financial space, and a UX that was engaging, fun, and unique.
Goal
Make a banking app that's fun and exciting
My goal was ambitious yet straightforward. I wanted to develop a brand and UX that was not just visually captivating but also resonated with the themes of gaming and excitement.
The mission was to build a cohesive visual brand experience and design a user-friendly mobile app that earned user trust and engagement.
This process involved a lot of designing and prototyping in Figma, collecting feedback early and often from stakeholders, leadership, and financial regulators, and working with engineers to build and QA the final product.
Branding and Visuals
I created lots of colorful 3D visuals, animations, and illustrations to use across the Millions brand and app. We used these visuals to give the app a playful vibe.
Animations
I created a number of custom animations we used across the Millions website and app. We used Lottie animations to maximize compatibility and keep the file size of the animations low.
These animations were created using Blender, Adobe After Effects, and Lottie.
Product UX and UI
As the only designer at Millions, I was also tasked with designing the entire app. I worked on everything from conceptual user flows to mocking up different button and input states.
The Millions app needed to have all the functionality of a modern banking app, but look and feel like something entirely new.
Results
The end results were gratifying. Millions now boasts a huge social media footprint, with over 1.2 million followers on TikTok and 250,000+ on Twitter.
During my tenure, we successfully gave away over $250,000 in cash and prizes, a testament to the brand's appeal and engagement strategy.
User feedback was overwhelmingly positive, particularly regarding the app's user interface, visual appeal, and the interactive gaming elements.
This project wasn't just about designing a product; it was about completely rethinking the end-user experience in the fintech space.
